Motorists traveling southbound on FM 2499 from Grapevine to Flower Mound have probably noticed the road is more congested than usual. This is due to several traffic changes made over the weekend that caused the road to be condensed to one lane.

Throughout the weekend, crews worked to open the new, lowered main lanes of southbound FM 2499, a major milestone for the $93 million DFW Connector project.

On Monday, Jan. 11, the two new southbound FM 2499 main lanes opened, allowing through traffic to bypass the intersections of Stars and Stripes Way and Grapevine Mills Boulevard in Grapevine. The current southbound FM 2499 lanes became a frontage road and will remain reduced to one lane for an extended period.

Also, drivers on the southbound FM 2499 frontage road will be detoured to SH 26 to access SH 114, SH 121 and I-635 for a two-week period.

On Jan. 11 , drivers were also able to choose between traveling on two southbound FM 2499 main lanes or traveling on the one-lane southbound FM 2499 frontage road to access local businesses.  New northbound FM 2499 main lanes are expected to open in March 2016.
