Georgetown ISD will now air sports content and school notices on the city’s cable access channel 10, or GTV, for free.
The GISD board of trustees unanimously voted to amend an agreement with the city Dec. 14 that is related to GTV channel 10 programming, which plays high school football and basketball games and bulletin board notices.
The city partnered with GISD in 2006 to offer school programming on the cable access channel. Since that time the district has paid $1,200 per month to help pay for staff, equipment and costs, said Suzanne Marchman, executive director of community engagement and communications.
“After doing a little bit of research it was determined that they’re not airing a lot of Georgetown ISD activities any longer, so I submitted a request to amend our agreement,” Marchman said.
Through the new agreement the city of Georgetown will provide five hours of free programming per month. GISD could pay a fee if programming time exceeds 5 hours, though Marchman said the district has not used more than 5 hours for several years.
Georgetown City Council approved the agreement at its regular meeting Oct, 13.
