Breast Cancer Charities of America, which puts on the annual Wine, Women and Shoes event, offers education outreach and programs including Feeling Beautiful Again, which focuses on empowering female cancer survivors to accept their bodies. CASA, or Court-Appointed Special Advocates, is Montgomery County’s only court-appointed organization advocating for abused and neglected children. Advocates ensure children are helped through legal and social services and do not languish in inappropriate group or foster homes. Advocates stay with each case until the child is placed in a safe, permanent home. CASA is seeking volunteers to become a child advocate, to offer event planning and to provide office assistance.

Children’s Safe Harbor provides services to sexually and physically abused children in Montgomery County and surrounding areas. Volunteers age 18 and older are needed for the family services team, which works one-on-one with children and families, and for the multidisciplinary support team, which assists the professionals working each case. Volunteers undergo an orientation. While the age requirement is 18 and older for most volunteer activities, younger children are invited to participate in other events, such as food and snack drives.

The Montgomery County Food Bank distributes more than 7 million pounds of food annually to more than 32,000 low-income children, adults and seniors living in Montgomery County. MCFB is in need of volunteers to inspect, sort and box food, help at food fairs or special events, and donate talents and professional services. The Montgomery County Women’s Center needs volunteers year-round to help in the administrative offices in Conroe and The Woodlands.
