The ceremony will be at the public works facility at 1 Harris Plaza, The Colony. The Mondragon family will be in attendance along with many local leaders to unveil the new highway signs with the new name.

Enrique Mondragon was killed on Christmas Eve 2012 in Baraki Barak, Afghanistan when his unit was attacked by small arms fire while on patrol, according to a Department of Defense news release. Mondragon was 23 and a resident of The Colony.

During the past legislative session State Rep. Pat Fallon, R-Frisco, helped pass a bill that would rename FM 423 after Mondragon. In June, Gov. Greg Abbott officially signed the bill.
