Approximately 150 new Grapevine-Colleyville ISD employees will attend ethics training on Aug. 13 at Colleyville Heritage High School.
The training will be facilitated by David Thompson of Thompson Education Consulting Group in San Antonio and will focus on topics such as preventing improper student-educator relationships and guidance on test irregularities and social media boundaries.
“This is a really serious issue,” Thompson said in a news release. “The effects of these abuses by a very few educators are very far-reaching. We have to remember that behind the headlines of these scandals there are real people whose lives are ruined."
GCISD Executive Director of Human Resources Gema Padgett said the increased use of social media has made it easier for the boundaries of educators and students to be compromised.
“Those coming to work in GCISD need to understand there are clear lines that cannot be crossed,” she said. “This training lets everybody know our expectations. It’s critical that employees understand that violating student [and] educator boundaries could at minimum cost them their job and possibly lead to legal troubles."
