The Texas Department of Transportation plans to host a series of public hearings late this summer to go over proposed changes to the Hwy. 290 lane configuration in an ongoing expansion project. Hearing dates and locations will be announced soon, officials said.
A restructuring of an agreement with the Harris County Toll Road Authority in 2014 left TxDOT with a funding deficit. As a result, planners have recommended scrapping plans for a three-lane reversible facility and replacing it with one reversible high occupancy vehicle-high occupancy toll lane to Mason Road.
Unlike the existing diamond lanes, the new HOV-HOT lane will be separated by barriers. Planned entrances and exits will be available through direct connector ramps at the Northwest Transit Center, West Little York Park and Ride, Northwest Station Park and Ride and through slip ramps at the Skinner Park and Ride.
Meanwhile, construction is underway on several highway projects in the Cy-Fair area. Crews continue to work on mainlanes and frontage roads, and work is still expected to begin on a Hwy. 6 overpass above Hwy. 290 before the end of the year.
The overall project is on target to be complete by the end of 2017, officials said.
