Since 2009, Sweet Things Ice Cream Shoppe has worked to make dessert the best part of any meal, but after a relocation and a name change, the restaurant is working to make the main course just as special.

The restaurant, which now operates as Mom's Eats and Sweet Things, opened just four doors down from its original location in September. Mom's Eats and Sweet Things now offers a full lunch and dinner menu that features homestyle American classics such as chicken-fried steak and meatloaf.

Owner Suzanne Lankford said she considered expanding into the world of entrees for several years before making the jump.

"Ice cream is really nice, but it's definitely seasonal," she said. "I wanted to have a boost in business throughout the year. I just like cooking for people, and I've always had a dream of owning a restaurant. Now, I've done it."

Menu items like the ravioli grilled cheese sandwich filled with toasted ravioli topped with marinara sauce and provolone keeps customers coming back for more than just ice cream, Lankford said.

"Expanding to three times our size was a little bit daunting, but we have a full house most days of the week," she said. "People are responding to our food because it's fresh, and we offer something a little bit more unusual."
