Colleyville's December 2014 sales taxes are up 7.47 percent, or $17,593, from the same time last year, accounting for the highest December sales tax allocation ever received.

Marty Wieder, director of economic development for Colleyville, said with the various amount of restaurants and businesses, such as Whole Foods Market, Petco and Aaron Brothers Framing, opening this year the city expected for sales tax to be higher.

"We hope to keep the momentum going as we finish out this year and go into the new year," he said. "I think we will continue to see a rise in sales tax revenue as Zoes Kitchen and a future tenant are being built in front of the Colleyville Downs currently, and the council just approved Tuesday [Dec. 16] the sale of alcohol on the premises of Black Walnut Cafe."

Wieder noted that the December sales tax figures are being configured from the previous two months.

With the holiday season in full swing, Wieder said he has been receiving a positive response to the city's new shopping opportunities.

"People have been saying how thrilled they are that they can get most, if not all, of their Christmas shopping down in Colleyville this year by virtue of our new retailers," he said. "I'm excited that we were able to give our residents more shopping options, and they are making a deliberate choice to do their holiday buying in Colleyville."
