The city of Frisco will continue ground spraying for mosquitos Sept. 8 after another mosquito pool tested positive for West Nile virus.
This is the third Frisco area this year to test positive for the virus. So far, no human cases have been reported.
The city began ground spraying Sept. 7 in the neighborhood bordered by Eldorado Parkway, Legacy Drive, Cottonwood Creek Park and Trails of Frisco Golf Club. Ground spraying will continue from 10 p.m. Sept. 8 until 6 a.m. Sept. 9, weather permitting.
The city will use a fogger truck to emit a 300-foot swath of fine mist from the back of the truck.
The city encourages residents to keep themselves and their pets inside during the spraying. Residents should also refresh pets' outside water dishes the next morning, though pools with proper filtration should be unaffected.
If the truck encounters people or pets on its route, the driver will turn off the fogger until the truck is clear of the individuals.
As of Sept. 2, the Texas Department of State Health Services has confirmed 49 human cases of West Nile illness with no cases reported in Collin or Denton County.
The department recommends people follow the "four Ds" as precautionary steps:
- Drain all standing water outside.
- Dress in long sleeves and pants.
- Use insect repellants with DEET.
- Avoid going outdoors at dusk and dawn.
