Sol Healing & Wellness Center, a holistic healing studio, opened June 29 at 13805 Ann Place near Howard Lane.
Services include acupuncture, counseling, sound therapy, health and wellness coaching, and massage and yoga workshops. In addition to regular massage services, masseuse Judy Kegg also offers watsu, which is a combination of shiatsu and water massage performed in a pool of warm water.
"[Watsu] is really good for just letting go," said Shanah McCrary, a holistic health practitioner at Sol Healing & Wellness Center.
On Tuesdays the business offers donation-based acupuncture services from 1–3 p.m. and watsu from noon–3 p.m. McCrary said attendees may choose to give any monetary amount of their choice for those services.
Sol Healing & Wellness Center is the first business in Austin to have a vibrating floor in its yoga studio, McCrary said. Sound therapist Sean Maher installed speakers as well as crystals underneath the wood floor to help people relax by changing the vibrations in their bodies.
Yoga workshops include Nidra—a form of deep relaxation and meditation—and seasonal, which includes breathing, movement and stagnant postures. The center also has a community garden that is open to the public. Owner Steve Milan also owns other counseling centers in Austin, including Sol Community Counseling.
"The beauty of the wellness center here is that we all [offer] different services, but [we] all have the same intent of helping people without having to take medication," McCrary said. "Our main focus is just really helping the community and educating [people] on how to live a healthier lifestyle."
