City officials assured concerned residents at a June 16 town hall meeting that troubles concerning picking up residents' recycling on a regular schedule are only temporary.

Environmental Services Manager Jeremy Starritt said since Community Waste Disposal lost the city's residential trash and recycling service contract, CWD has faced a shortage of drivers as it finishes out its contract that ends Aug. 1.

Starritt said the company is in the process of hiring new drivers and getting them trained, but while the problems continue, ensuring trash is picked up has been the primary focus, and picking up recycling is secondary.

"We do not foresee these isues continuing, especially past Aug. 1," Starritt said.

He explained that some neighborhoods being missed repeatedly and some not at all has to do with the GPS routing system used by CWD.
