The Georgetown ISD board of trustees chose the district's new superintendent as well as several board officers for the upcoming year at its June 23 meeting.

Fred Brent, who was announced the lone finalist in the search for GISD superintendent in early May, received the final vote of approval.

I cant wait to be here and I cant wait to live in Georgetown, he said. I look forward to working with everyone here and discovering where we want to go together.

He is succeeding Joe Dan Lee, whose retirement becomes effective July 31. Lee served the district for seven years, and Brent said he is honored to carry on Lees work.

It is a district of choice and it is a district where a lot of people in the state of Texas want to serve as superintendent, Brent said. "That's because of the work that you've done."

Brents term begins July 14.

Also elected at the meeting were the GISD board officers for the 2014 to 2015 year.

The school board has three officer positionspresident, vice president and secretarythat have a term of one year. Officers are nominated by other board members and may serve multiple times.

The board elected Scott Stribling to serve as vice president. The position was previously held by Mike Hewlett, who decided in May not to seek re-election for his seat on the board.

Two positions were renewed; the board voted for Ronna Johnson to remain board secretary for a second year. The board renewed the board presidency ofScott Alarcon, who has held his position since July 2011.
