At its April 1 meeting, City Council unanimously approved the second reading of a proposed plan to build a Westin Hotel, giving permission for construction at 1200 E. SH 114 to begin as soon as possible. The first reading about the hotel March 18 received strong support from the entire council, enabling the second reading to be swift and without much dispute.
Stacy Burnett, communications director of nearby Gateway Church, supported the project.
"We're excited to welcome them into the neighborhood," she said.
The developer expects to be ready to open in spring or summer 2016, said Paul Barham, a representative for the project.
