A land use development plan in Southlake may be changing and a public hearing on the issue will be held March 4 at city hall.

Remington Estates has plans to build single-family housing lots on property off of Shady Lane and representatives from the group went in front of City Council Tuesday night.

The goal was to get a portion of the lot's designation changed from "low density residential" to medium density.

Low density is defined as a detached single-family development with "a net density of one or fewer dwelling units per acre," according to Southlake's comprehensive plan. Medium density is any detached single-family development.

While city council did pass the first reading of the ordinance by a 4-3 vote, there is still a ways to go.

"Understand too, that's pretty close," said Mayor John Terrell, of the vote. He and the council hope some of the issues brought up at the meeting will be addressed by March 4.

Some of those issues include the building of an access road, the potential of new lighting that may disturb neighbors and the affect on nearby property values.

"They never anticipated a road going through there," said council member Carolyn Morris of current homeowners.

City Council will hear from the public March 4 on the issue during its regular meeting.
