[Updated Feb. 5 at 9 a.m. CST]

The Texas Department of Transportation and Central Texas Regional Mobility Authority have rescheduled an open house for Feb. 18 to talk to residents about options to manage congestion on US 183 North.

The original event was canceled because of inclement weather Jan. 28.

The event will be from 5–8 p.m. at Anderson High School, 8403 Mesa Drive. Residents will have the opportunity to talk to the project team about proposed plans for US 183 North on the eight miles between MoPac and SH 45 N and will be able to submit comments.

The Mobility Authority, which is overseeing the construction of toll lanes on MoPac, launched an environmental study on US 183 North in late 2013.

Options previously discussed for this part of US 183 have included adding one or two toll lanes in the grassy median. Other options will also be discussed to account for all the needs of drivers, transit riders, bicyclists and pedestrians, according to a Mobility Authority news release.

Residents who are unable to attend the Feb. 18 event may participate in the virtual open house through Feb. 28 by visiting the website.

History

US 183 was constructed in 1996 as a four- to six-lane highway between SH 45 North and MoPac. About 187,000 vehicles travel on this roadway daily, according to the Mobility Authority. The population of surrounding communities has increased by 70 percent in Austin and 848 percent in Cedar Park, according to U.S. Census information.
