A fter opening on FM 1960 in February 2013, locally owned bakery Smallcakes has built up a reliable customer base through word-of-mouth and by being active in the community it serves. In the seven months since opening, business has been booming, said owner Nadia Saqr, who runs the shop with her husband, Sam.

The bakery offers a variety of cakes and other treats, but it is mostly known for its cupcakes. With more than 100 flavors, and new ones constantly being innovated, Saqr said she always has something different for customers to try.

"We feature about 15–20 flavors daily," she said. "We started with 80 flavors, and we try to bring in new ones seasonally. In the summer, we'll have root beer float and cherry limeade. In the fall, we'll do gingerbread and pumpkin spice."

Saqr said she is in the process of introducing 20 new flavors, which will be brought in throughout the course of September. New flavors in the works include mango habaero and tropical paradise.

All cupcakes are made fresh daily. Leftovers at the end of the night are donated to nonprofits, like Cy-Hope.

"We've just had great response and support from community members and businesses," Saqr said.
