Following budget discussion and adoption at their Aug. 27 meeting, Williamson County commissioners agreed to maintain the current year's property tax rate into the next fiscal year, which begins Oct. 1.
Because the current tax rate, 48.9029 cents per $100 of valuation, is higher than the effective rate, 48.1839 cents per $100 of valuation, two public hearings were called to receive resident input on the tax rate.
The effective tax rate is decided based on current property values; it is the rate that would generate the same amount of money for county use as generated the year before.
Public hearings regarding the tax rate are scheduled for 10 a.m. on Sept. 10 and 17 during regular Commissioners Court meetings.
