An assistant fire chief in Arlington will start work as the city of Colleyville's new chief on Sept. 1.
A statement from Colleyville city spokeswoman Mona Gandy says Brian J. Riley was selected from more than 60 candidates.
His background includes fire and aircraft crash/rescue for the U.S. Air Force. Riley started with the Arlington department in 1981 and served in positions from firefighter to battalion chief before becoming assistant chief in 1998.
The former Grand Prairie fire chief, Clif Nelson, was interim chief in Colleyville as the city searched for a permanent replacement for retiring chief Russell Shelley.
