The Oak Ridge North City Council granted a petition June 10 for voluntary annexation to GHRSI, LLC., a developer that plans to build on two separate pieces of property outside the city's boundaries but inside the city's extraterritorial jurisdiction.
GHRSI Manager John Tatum said he plans to construct a 105,000-square-foot office space, of which 10,000-12,000 square feet will be retail and the remainder will be light manufacturing.
The second piece of land Tatum said he hopes to develop is about 3 acres on the south side of Robinson Road east of Hanna Road, which would feature a mix of retail and light manufacturing. The development could possibly be a storage facility or a "build-to-suit" for a particular company.
Council members Jim Simon and Al Stahl and Mayor Jim Kuykendall expressed concerns the land should be zoned for retail along Robinson Road for the city to receive a sales tax impact.
"I can assure you that the developer can do as much as I can to maximize the income," Tatum said.
The city will hold an annexation hearing on the properties July 22.
