Round Rock ISD's board of trustees set a June 3 deadline to replace board secretary Glen Colby, who submitted his resignation April 5.
Colby cited time demands as his reason for stepping down. To fill Colby's seat, the board will receive applications online from interested district residents. Bill Bingham, the district's legal counsel, said Colby must serve on the board until the trustees appoint a new member to his position and that an election will need to be held in November. Trustees Terri Romere and Pauline Law stressed the importance of not rushing the process for finding Colby's replacement.
"I feel that we need to do our due-diligence and give the community time to apply," Law said.
New principals named
Also during its April 18 meeting, the board named new principals for two schools. Martha Werner was selected as principal for Deep Wood Elementary School. She currently serves principal at an elementary in Bastrop ISD. She has been in the education field since 1993.
The board named Cheryl Hester as Xeina Voight Elementary School's new principal. Hester served as the assistant principal for the school from 2009–11.
"We're going to make Voight the best school in Round Rock," Hester said.
Campus improvements
The board approved several campus improvements and contractors for individual projects at the meeting:
approved a $750,000 project for an agriculture facility at Stony Point High School. Funds for the project will come from the bond fund balances and bond fund interest earnings. According to the proposed schedule, the board could approve a general contractor for the project in June and construction could begin in July.
