For Magnolia, 2013 marks the first year the city has reached more than $200,000 in sales tax revenue in February.
Magnolia's $207,428 February revenue combined with $144,486 in January marks a good start to 2013. City Administrator Paul Mendes said cities cannot identify exactly which businesses generate the most sales tax, but officials believe the new Walgreens at FM 1774 and FM 1488 played a role.
"We are getting more businesses in, and we will have to continue to work on crowd control to make it easier on people to come in and out of the city without being stuck in traffic," he said.
Mendes said the city expects sales tax figures to remain steady, and hopes growth in Magnolia Ridge will bring more shoppers to the area.
