The City Council starts with a 5:30 p.m. work session followed by meetings on the first and third Tuesday of each month

Meetings are broadcast live on Charter cable channel 27 and Verizon Fios channel 34.

Top issues for 2012

  • 2030 Plan — The city continued to follow the comprehensive plan.
  • New hospital — Construction began on Forest Park Medical Center.
  • Water conservation — The city adopted a Water Use Master Plan in June.
  • The DFW Connector — The road construction continued.
  • West Nile virus outbreak and response — The first human case of West Nile virus in Southlake was confirmed in July.

Top issues for 2013

  • Sidewalk construction — More than 33,032 linear feet are planned, with $1,024,775 in grants and city money.
  • FM 1938 — Construction of the north-south road between Hwy. 260 and U.S. 377 includes a water line, a water main, trails, sidewalks, drainage and median landscaping.
  • Departments of Public Safety North — The facility at East Dove Road and North White Chapel is scheduled to open in December.
  • Completion of T.W. King 30-inch water line — The line will improve water distribution.

Terms and compensation

The Southlake City Council's seven members and mayor are all elected at large for three-year terms. No member may serve more than two successive elected terms.
