Top issues for 2012

  • The DFW Connector — The $985 million project left Main Street less accessible for much of the year.
  • Expansion of Baylor Regional Medical Center at Grapevine — The $100.5 million patient tower was under construction all year.
  • Bond election — Voters approved almost $69 million in bonds for a new public safety building and expansion of the Community Activities Center.
  • Grapevine Mills renovation — The shopping mall unveiled plans for dramatic improvements.

  • Economic development — The city plans a big push to bring in more family attractions.
  • The DFW Connector — The big road job is expected to be completed in July.
  • Baylor Regional Medical Center at Grapevine opening — The new patient tower opens this summer, bringing jobs and revenue.
  • Project design — Land acquisition for a public safety building and design for it and the Community Activities Center will get under way.

Terms and compensation

The mayor and council serve three-year terms with no term limits and with monthly stipends (mayor $410.61 monthly, council $212.75). The council has until February to set a date for an election deciding whether to limit terms of the council and mayor.
