The Town of Westlake's successful efforts to bring in Deloitte University and its strong communications efforts won awards recently from a state council and an international association.

The town won a Community Economic Development Award from the Texas Economic Development Council for Deloitte, which it lured with a development agreement and a 10-year tax abatement. The 700, 000-square-foot teaching center on 107 acres has 100 Deloitte employees and another 350-500 support workers for day-to-day operations.

The town was one of five chosen from among 26 applicants.

Also, the International City/County Management Association gave Westlake a 2012 Community Sustainability Award for communications programs that included video messages from the mayor, neighborhood meetings, email updates, surveys and more.
