Joe Michels, the only contested Conroe ISD Board of Trustee member, is struggling to keep up with Jessica Powell in the race for Position 7. According to unofficial results from Montgomery County, Powell leads by 57.07 percent at 20,519 votes leaving 15,436 (42.93 percent) with Michels.

Out of 86 precincts, 11 are reporting (12.79 percent).

Former Oak Ridge North mayor Michels was appointed to the CISD board in June 2011 following the retirement of Gerald Irons and will now serve a full four-year term. CISD board elections are held biennially. As one of four positions up for election this year, No. 7 was the only contested race.

Michels is a graduate of Houston Baptist University and the University of Houston Law Center, where he received his juris doctorate. Powell is a former CISD teacher and current instructional technology specialist at Huntsville ISD. Before switching districts she taught at Moorhead Junior High and Oak Ridge High School.

With Position 4 incumbent Ann Snyder stepping down, The Woodlands businessman Datren Williams takes the seat uncontested. Also unopposed is Position 5 candidate Scott Kidd, a Woodlands lawyer, who steps in as incumbent Lynda Sasser retires from the board, and Position 6 incumbent John Husbands secures another term.
