Eanes ISD is increasing the distance between residential bus stops for secondary students from 1,500 feet to 2,500 feet for the 2012–13 school year. The distance for elementary student stops will remain at 500 feet.

Increasing the distance between stops for secondary students is expected to reduce both fuel usage and driver labor, saving the school district an estimated $16,700 per year, the district said in an email. The change in stop distances is also expected to reduce ride times for students.

Bus routes for the 2012–13 school year are being developed from student registration and will be released Aug. 20.
