The Pflugerville City Council met June 26 to review a presentation of the city's upcoming Fourth of July celebration at Lake Pflugerville.

Plans for the free 2012 Pflugerville Pfirecracker Pfestival include live music from the Austin Civic Wind Ensemble, food, games and a fireworks display. The evening will end with a concert from singer/songwriter Ruby Jane. Terri Waggoner, Pflugerville public information officer, said the city expects a much larger crowd this year. Fireworks were canceled last year because of extreme drought conditions.

"We want to make it as efficient as we possibly can," Waggoner said.

Waggoner said some aspects of the event have been changed from previous years. She said the fireworks used to be launched over the dams, causing the city to close the walkway over the dam. This year, the city changed the launch location to the west side of the lake so residents won't be cut off from the other side, Waggoner said.

She said the city increased the number of buses that will shuttle attendees from parking to the lake. Shuttle drop-off locations will depend on where passengers are picked up, avoiding some of the confusion in years past, Waggoner said.

"If they're coming from Hendrickson, they'll be dropped off on the north side [of the lake]," Waggoner said. "If they're coming from Pflugerville, they'll be dropped off on the south."
