The Texas Department of Transportation plans to begin work on Monday for a pavement overlay project on Hwy. 26 from John McCain Road to FM 1938.

TxDOT is alerting drivers that Hwy. 26 will be reduced to one lane in each direction from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. during work, and crews will limit their lane closures to about 2 miles at a time. The project includes pavement repair, pavement milling and asphalt overlay.

Plans for the overlay divide the work into three segments:

  • 1,000 feet south of John McCain Road to Glade Road
  • Glade Road to Precinct Line Road
  • Precinct Line Road to north of FM 1938

Lane Construction Corporation was awarded the estimated $4.2 million project.

"We plan to work as quickly as possible and the 7-mile project should be complete by the fall/winter time frame this year," TxDOT spokesman Val Lopez said.
