New Caney ISD leaders eye 50-acre property for potential school site

New Caney ISD leaders are working toward securing 50 acres of land that could house a future school along McCleskey Road in New Caney.

In a nutshell

During its regular Sept. 21 meeting, NCISD’s board of trustees voted to allow Superintendent Matt Calvert to negotiate the potential purchase of two plots of land, spanning 12.5 acres and 6.25 acres, both located along McCleskey Road in New Caney. 

During the July 20 board meeting, trustees OK’d the start of negotiations for a 31.25-acre property along McCleskey Road, as previously reported by Community Impact.

The next NCISD school to open, Highlands Middle School, is currently under construction, as previously reported. The 215,100-square-foot campus will feature a pod for all three grade levels, a small natural grass stadium and a dedicated service yard for CTE programs and theater.

Highlands Middle School is expected to cost $60.46 million and to be completed by the fall of 2027, as previously reported. The school is located at 2700 FM 1314, Porter. 

Construction on Elementary School No. 13, a $44 million campus, is expected to begin in November and be completed in late spring or summer 2028, as previously reported. The school will be 110,000 square feet and two stories tall.
