Multiple New Caney ISD projects funded by the district's $695 million bond package, which was approved by voters in May 2023, have recent updates. This list is not comprehensive.
Completed projects
1. New Caney Elementary School replacement campus
Project: The new 110,000-square-foot facility replaced New Caney Elementary School’s old campus, which was located at 20501 FM 1485, New Caney.
Update: The project was completed in June, before Aug. 6, when students returned for the 2026-27 school year, said Scott Powers, NCISD’s executive director of public relations, via email Aug. 17.

- Cost: $28.29 million
2. Pine Valley Middle School renovations
Project: New paint, flooring and vestibules were added to the campus, Superintendent Matt Calvert said during NCISD board of trustees’ July 20 regular meeting. Updates for the administration spaces and new heating, ventilation and air conditioning units were also included in the remodel, as previously reported by Community Impact.
Update: Most of the project was completed by Aug. 3, before students returned for the 2026-27 school year Aug. 6, Powers said.

- Cost: $4.9 million
3. Oakley Elementary School remodel
Project: Carpet work and painting were completed at the school, Calvert said July 20.
Update: The project was completed on Aug. 3, Powers said.

Ongoing projects
4. New Caney High School athletic improvements phase 3
Project: The athletics facility planned for New Caney High School will include a football field, a soccer field, a track, a field house and a multipurpose practice facility.
Update: Work on this project is about 90% complete, Calvert said July 20. Most of the work was completed by Aug. 3, but some final touches such as fencing is still being completed, Powers said.

- Cost: $22 million
5. Highlands Middle School
Project: The 215,100-square-foot campus will feature a pod for all three grade levels included in the school, a small natural grass stadium and a dedicated service yard for career and technical education programs and theater, according to NCISD’s website.
Update: Construction on the school is about 40% complete, Calvert said July 20.
- Timeline: June 2025-fall 2027
- Cost: $60.46 million
Upcoming projects
6. Elementary school No. 13
Project: The campus is expected to have capacity for 1,000 students and be about 110,000 square feet, as previously reported. The facility will be two stories tall, Calvert said July 20.
Update: Drawings for the design of the school are about 75% complete, Calvert said.
- Timeline: November 2026-late spring or summer 2028
- Cost: $44 million
7. McClesky Road property school
Project: During trustees’ July 20 meeting, the board OK’d the start of negotiations for a 31.25-acre property along McCleskey Road.
Update: This site is expected to house a future NCISD school, Powers said.
