McKenna Children’s Museum to celebrate 20 years in New Braunfels

"Being in operation for two decades, we now have the privilege of seeing the generational impact of our work," Jewell said in an email to Community Impact. "Parents who once explored our exhibits as children are now bringing in little ones of their own, and there’s something truly special about that."

The museum will be celebrating its 20-year anniversary with a celebration April 3, according to a Facebook post.

The history

The McKenna Foundation— which oversees the McKenna Children's Museum—can trace its roots back to the 1940s in New Braunfels, according to previous reporting from Community Impact.

The foundation was formed after local civic leader Howard C. McKenna saw the need for a hospital in New Braunfels. Now, the organization has expanded its community outreach with the McKenna Children’s Museum and the McKenna Events Center.

In 2006, the museum opened and officially changed its name after the foundation took over the New Braunfels Children's Museum, according to previous reporting.
