A native of Houston, Kameron Saur said she noticed a lack of indoor play opportunities for kids when moving to New Braunfels several years ago.
“When I was new to the area, I remember feeling lonely and isolated for the first few years,” Kameron Saur said. “Getting kids and parents out to places is really important.”
Feeling the need to fill the niche for an indoor play space in the city, Kameron Saur and her husband, Clay, opened The Fun Bug, Play Studio & Parties in June 2025. Soon after, Kameron Saur’s sister, Caitlin Simonson, joined the team as the lead manager.

What’s special about it?
The Fun Bug contains both an indoor play studio and coffee shop, and the majority of the design was custom built by Clay Saur.
The indoor playground contains a large play structure featuring a slide, climbing areas, toys and games. There is also smaller areas for more interactive, stimulating games and activities, along with a nursery area for infants and toddlers.
“I wanted the place to be big enough for kids to run around and play but also small enough for parents to hold a conversation,” Kameron Saur said.
The business sells light snacks like cake pops and holiday-themed cookies. The Fun Bug also has a drink menu with a variety of specialty coffee, dirty soda, matcha, green tea and more.
“The coffee was huge for us,” Kameron Saur said. “Parents need caffeine sometimes.”
In addition to weekly open play sessions at the playground, families can also choose to host private parties and events.
The Fun Bug also hosts seasonal and recurring events, from cookie decorating classes to weekly music lessons.

The local impact
Kameron Saur said the most important part of The Fun Bug is the connections and friendships which both parents and children make when visiting the venue.
“We genuinely love connecting with all the parents that come in here,” she said. “We’ve seen so many moms make so many friends.”
She also said she wants to see more places like The Fun Bug open across the country to help parents raise their children.
“Being a parent is flat out hard,” she said. “I wish I had something like this when my kids were little.”

The future
Looking ahead, Clay Saur said the short-term goal is to take “baby steps” in expansion.
“We’re going to keep going here and build off of what we’ve got,” he said. If the opportunity arises, the business may be able to expand at its current location in the Creekside Crossing shopping area, he said.
Long-term, Kameron said franchising and opening new locations are at the top of the bucket list.
“In five to 10 years from now, that would be such a fun opportunity,” she said.
