McKinney City Council approved a construction bid from Mario Sinacola and Sons Excavating to expand Wilmeth Road.
At a Jan. 4 meeting, council members approved the bid of just over $19.3 million with Mario Sinacola and Sons being the lowest of five total bidders. Collin County commissioners awarded the city $11 million for the project in October 2019 under its 2018 bond. The remaining funds will be provided by the city.
Construction is expected to begin in February and end by January 2024.
The project will extend Wilmeth Road east to Hardin Boulevard and west to Lake Forest Drive. The project will also widen the entire road to include two travel lanes in each direction. Crews will also add multilane roundabouts at Lake Forest, Hardin and Taylor Burk Drive, according to a presentation by McKinney Capital Improvements Manager Nick Ataie.
