Shiloh Place officials celebrated the grand opening of a new apartment community that doubles the organization’s capacity to serve single mothers and their children.
The overview
The community, located in East McKinney, features two residential buildings with eight units each. Each apartment has two bedrooms, a bathroom and a full-size kitchen. The community also features an outdoor area with green space and playgrounds for children, a program building and administration building.
Shiloh Place CEO Eppy Thern thanked nearly 300 people who attended the ribbon-cutting ceremony held in June.
“As you know it’s been a long journey but it’s worth it,” Thern said. “The calling that has been laid before us, the mission that was put before us is to reach out, to expand, and to impact the lives of the women and the children that are going to be here.”

Shiloh Place is a nonprofit organization that supports single mothers. Organization officials help single mothers gain financial independence and personal wholeness by addressing physical, educational, emotional and spiritual needs, according to its website.
The organization provides basic needs for single mothers like housing, childcare and utilities. While single mothers are enrolled in the program, they have to be enrolled full-time in a degree or certificate program and work part-time.
“We provide housing, we pay for their childcare, we pay for their tuition for higher education,” Thern said. “In return, the moms work hard. We remove the barriers so they can move forward.”

Multiple firms partnered together to develop the project including McKinney-based development firm Craig International. O’Brien Architects designed the buildings and Kimley-Horn offered civil planning and landscaping services for the project. Jordan and Skala Engineers, and Strand provided engineering services.
Craig International President James Craig said the project was “one of many examples” why McKinney is “such a special place to live.” It was a “team effort” and the community was “blessed and fortunate” to have so many firms willing to donate their time and services, he said.
Moss Construction broke ground on the community in 2024 and construction finished in April 2026, Craig said. He was inspired by the team that worked on the project as well as Thern and the mothers who shared stories of their time at Shiloh Place.
“At the end of the day, it’s probably the most rewarding project I’ve ever worked on professionally and personally,” he said.
