Dallas-Fort Worth airports to receive $355 million in coronavirus relief funds

A number of Dallas-Fort Worth area airports are expected to receive nearly $355 million in funds from the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act.

Texas Senator John Cornyn announced April 15 that a total of 23 DFW airports would be the recipient of funds, including McKinney National Airport, which will receive $157,000.

“As Texas reels from the economic destruction caused by the coronavirus outbreak, it’s important our airports have the resources they need to weather the storm,” Cornyn said in a statement.

The bulk of grant money from the CARES Act will be distributed to Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport and Dallas Love Field. DFW airport will receive more than $299 million, and Love Field is expected to receive north of $53 million.

Signed into law on March 27, the CARES Act includes a total of $10 billion in economic relief for U.S. airports affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. According to the Federal Aviation Administration, funds are expected to be available in April.

Additionally, through the CARES Act airport program primary commercial airports that service more than 10,000 passengers will receive additional funds, and general aviation airports will receive funds based on category of airport, such as national, regional or local.
