Prosper ISD students and families in the northwest area of the district will see a shake-up in attendance boundaries heading into the 2027-28 school year.
District officials are reworking middle and high school attendance boundaries to accommodate Watkins Middle School, which is slated to open in fall 2027.
Chief Human Resources Officer Charis Hunt presented the district’s proposed attendance boundaries for the 2027-28 school year at an Oct. 19 board of trustees meeting.
The future Watkins Middle School will draw students from areas currently zoned for Reynolds and Moseley middle schools, according to the proposed boundaries.
The details
Under the proposed boundaries, students from the Lakes of Prosper and Villages at Prosper Trail neighborhoods who are currently zoned for Reynolds would be rezoned for Watkins, according to Hunt’s presentation.
Students from the following neighborhoods zoned for Moseley would be rezoned for Watkins as well:
Creeks of Legacy
Legacy Gardens
Star Trail

The Mosaic neighborhood would also see its high school zoning change, Hunt said.
Students rezoned for Watkins would be rezoned for Prosper High School instead of Richland High School, according to the proposed boundaries.
The conditions
Some students would be able to choose whether to finish out their time at their current school or switch to the potential new zoning, per Hunt’s presentation.
Rising eighth-grade students at Reynolds and Moseley rezoned for Watkins could choose to stay at their current school as long as they provide their own transportation, according to district officials’ recommendations.
Students zoned for Watkins would still attend Prosper High School, even if they didn’t attend Watkins, per Hunt’s presentation.
Rising 10th-12th grade students from the Mosaic neighborhood who attend Richland High School would also be able to stay at their current school instead of switching to Prosper High School if they provide their own transportation.
“Coming from a guy whose kiddo is impacted by this, this is never a fun thing,” Board Secretary David Webb said.
Diving in deeper
Watkins Middle School was originally supposed to open for the 2026-27 school year, according to previous reporting.
District officials delayed the campus’s opening for a year amid a slowdown in student population growth.
PISD is still growing, just not as fast as it once was, officials have said.
The proposed 2027-28 attendance boundaries were designed with PISD’s growing student population in mind, particularly in the northwest area of the district, Hunt said.
Neighborhoods in northwest PISD with over 200 future and vacant developed lots include:
Legacy Branch
Creekside
Legacy Gardens
Edgewood Creek
Sutton Fields
Green Meadows
Students in all of those neighborhoods would have been sent to Moseley under the current attendance boundaries.
The high-growth area's zoning would be split between Moseley and Watkins under the proposed changes.
Next steps
District officials will consider community feedback as they evaluate the proposed attendance boundaries, according to Hunt’s presentation.
The board is set to vote on the changes on Nov. 16.
