Rent the Chicken, an urban chicken rental program for fresh eggs, now has a Katy affiliate. Ed and Diane Roberson of Katy will be renting out chickens and are taking deposits and reservations for spring delivery in April and May. Rent the Chicken is based in Freeport, Pennsylvania, and started in 2013 as a way for people to have fresh eggs without the full commitment of owning a chicken. Fertile chicken eggs can also be rented in a five week "Hatch the Chicken" program so that groups can watch chicks hatch and then give them back.
