Officials with The Samaritan Inn celebrated the grand opening of the nonprofit's new location April 26 at 1514 N. McDonald St., McKinney. The Inn was previously located at 1710 N. McDonald St., McKinney, but the new facility was built to house more people in need of shelter.
The Inn offers homes to homeless individuals, families and children, who are drug and alcohol free and have not been convicted of violent or sexual crimes. These residents can stay on a productive-basis, meaning they must show efforts of progress, such as securing a job or seeking self-betterment opportunities.
The former location had 160 beds, but the new facility has 225 beds. The new facility also has game rooms for children and teenagers, reading rooms for adults and children, a classroom, a computer lab, playground, laundry room and a cafeteria. The inn has a modern and bright interior to create a positive atmosphere, Samaritan Inn CEO Rick Crocker said.
