The San Marcos River Foundation, a nonprofit that was founded in 1985 with the mission of preserving the quality of the San Marcos River, announced in an Aug. 30 press release that Dianne Wassenich, the SMRF executive director, would be retiring after 35 years of leading the organization.
Virginia Parker Condie, who once served as the vice president of SMRF's board, has been named the next executive director.
Condie, among other achievements related to environmental conservation, was involved in the creation of the Blanco River Recovery team after the 2015 floods in San Marcos.
She also served on a 2016 Texas Parks and Wildlife Department task force to address concerns related to recreational tubing.
