Video game developer Certain Affinity will moving its headquarters in June to a 55,000-square-foot building at 7620 Guadalupe St., Austin, a location that was previously the office of the Texas Association of School Boards. The company is currently based in Northwest Austin off MoPac near Oak Creek Drive.

Certain Affinity purchased its new building and is planning extensive renovations to create a development space, gaming test labs, sound design suites and a virtual reality development lab as well as first-floor retail spaces that will be available for lease. Renovation work is expected to finish by June.

“Our new headquarters will reflect both Austin’s and Certain Affinity’s ongoing commitment to promote a diverse, supportive, friendly community where creativity and technology can thrive together,” company President Max Hoberman said in a news release.

Hoberman founded Certain Affinity in 2006. The company, which employs 125 people in Austin, has worked on a variety of popular video games, including “Halo” and “Call of Duty.”

Certain Affinity’s new headquarters will be the first construction project to benefit from Texas’ Media Production Facilities Development Program, according to an announcement Friday from Austin Mayor Steve Adler’s office.

In a statement, Adler said the company’s plan is an example of how economic incentives for businesses should be used and noted that “Certain Affinity is leveraging Austin’s strength as a game-developing center to create opportunities where, for too long, inequities have held entire communities back.”
