A cajun restaurant in Northwest Austin frequented by Louisiana natives shut its doors for the last time Jan. 29.

Cajun Pizza Place closed following co-owner, Keith “Flash” Dartez’s decision to retire, according to the restaurant’s Facebook page.

Dartez ran a pizza shop in Lafayette, Louisiana for 38 years before moving to Austin and opening Cajun Pizza Place in 2009. The restaurant relocated from McNeil Drive to 6001 W. Parmer Lane, Ste. 440, in 2015.

Known for its Louisiana-inspired pizzas as well as gumbo, crawfish etouffee, boudin balls and other Cajun dishes, the restaurant welcomed regulars and newcomers alike, Dartez’s daughter Samantha told Community Impact Newspaper in April 2018.

“It’s like coming home for a lot of people,” she said. “They see familiar faces.”
