For the first time, Austin-based tech company SmartHauz.me has integrated its complete smart home system into a model home, and it is located in New Braunfels.

SmartHauz.me CEO Sunny Sneckner said his company partnered with Stone Creek Custom Homes this summer, and the builder is now incorporating some level of smart home technology into all of its products. Customers can then decide if they want to purchase additional features.

“There is no definition of a smart home right now, but we are defining it as a set of three things: locks, lights and thermostats,” Sneckner said.

The comprehensive technology is designed to save customers time and money while offering enhanced safety.

“A lot of what you get out of this is time back in your day,” Sneckner said.

SmartHauz.me states on its website that its capabilities also have the potential of saving customers up to 23 percent on heating and cooling costs and cutting water usage by as much as 30 percent.

According to Sneckner, customers can begin their smart home journey with SmartHauz.me for just a few thousand dollars. He cites one benefit of incorporating the system into a custom home package as the ability to roll the costs into the mortgage. SmartHauz.me also specializes in adding its features to existing homes.

The SmartHauz system works with both Apple’s Siri and Amazon’s Alexa systems. Sneckner said the system streamlines the smart home process so that customers are not working from several different apps to control different features in the home. It also sets customers free from monthly contracts and systems that use dealer-only hardware, Sneckner said, adding the only monthly cost from his company could include an optional annual support contract.

“Or you can do by-issue support,” he said. “That doesn’t really happen very much at all.”

Those who want to see the technology firsthand can stop by the model home Saturday from 10:30 a.m. to noon at 1225 Vintage Way, New Braunfels. Sneckner will be on-site to answer questions. 888-583-4289. www.smarthauz.me
