The Leander ISD board of trustees named Chris Clark the lone finalist to serve as the district’s next superintendent.
Clark has served as acting superintendent since the retirement of the previous superintendent, Bruce Gearing, in December 2025.
The details
The board of trustees voted unanimously to make Clark the lone finalist at its March 12 meeting. Clark will lead more than 42,000 students across 49 schools, a news release from the district states.
Clark previously served as deputy superintendent of learning and innovation. Before joining Leander ISD, he held leadership roles in Frisco ISD, McKinney ISD and Tulsa Public Schools, the news release states. In addition to his district-level experience, Clark has experience as a teacher, assistant principal and principal.
What they're saying
"Leander ISD, like districts across Texas, is navigating a lot of change right now, but I feel confident knowing the direction we're heading under your leadership," board President Anna Smith. "I believe you'll help us reimagine what the next chapter of public education can look like for our students."
State law requires the board to wait three weeks before it can vote to finalize a superintendent contract, according to the news release. The board will vote on Clark's contract in April.
"Thank you for the trust that you have placed in me, and I accept this role not just as a professional honor but as a commitment—a commitment to 42,000 students who attend school every day in this district, 5,600 staff members who choose to work here, and the families of those students and the families of those staff members—and last, but definitely not least, to the taxpayers who support this district," Clark said.
