Bee Cave council votes against microtrenching
Bee Cave City Council decided at an Aug. 25 meeting to not move forward with an updated ordinance that would allow fiber internet installation through microtrenching, due to potential damage to the roadways.
The background
Microtrenching is a construction technique commonly used by broadband fiber optic companies to install new lines in existing streets, according to city documents.
The technique involves cutting a narrow and continuous trench in the existing asphalt or concrete, laying a fiber line and then backfilling and patching the street.

Bee Cave denies permit for research lab
Bee Cave City Council rejected a special use permit for a research and development lab for VVater, a water treatment company, at an Aug. 25 council meeting.
The background
VVater is a water technology company that offers water treatment and reuse solutions.
The company applied for a special use permit for its research and development lab to be located at a roughly 3-acre property along RM 620.
No new construction or site development was proposed; however, the applicant requested that the city modify the unified development code to allow open or outdoor storage for research lab uses, according to city documents.

Work continues on The Square at Lakeway as project hits some delays
The city of Lakeway issued in August a notice to proceed to Joe Bland Construction for infrastructure improvements as it continues work on The Square at Lakeway.
The contractor started grading work for the new Main Street, which will connect Ranch Road 620 to Lohmans Crossing Road, while trenching for the underground election and gas infrastructure is also underway.
