Terms and compensation The council consists of the mayor and six council members. The term of office for all members is three years with staggered elections. Members serve without compensation.

Big decisions made in 2015

Traffic management Lakeway advocated for an RR 620 improvement study by the Texas Department of Transportation that is now complete. TxDOT will begin analysis and engineering to add lanes and intersection improvements from Hwy. 71 to just north of Lakeway Boulevard. Construction began on the Flint Rock Road Improvement Project to widen lanes, add a median in some areas and improve shoulders in other areas.

CAMPO study Mayor Joe Bain continues to represent Lakeway and other small cities on the Capital Area Metropolitan Planning Organization. Lakeway and other small cities in western Travis County successfully lobbied for CAMPO to conduct a regional transportation corridor study in western Travis County.

Property tax rate City Council approved a property tax rate of 17 cents per $100 of property valuation for fiscal year 2015-16.

Top issues for 2016

Capital improvement plan City Council is working toward acceptance of a capital improvement plan that could include a justice center, other city facilities, parkland improvements and traffic signal additions.

City growth Lakeway will pay attention to managing the growth pressures in the community.

Finances Lakeway City Council and staff will manage the operations of the city to maintain a low property tax rate and provide residents with outstanding levels of service.
