Boil-water notice issued by West Travis County Public Utility Agency

The West Travis County Public Utility Agency, located in Bee Cave, has issued a boil-water notice for all its customers, many of whom live in Lakeway, Bee Cave and other areas close to Lake Travis.

The boil-water notice was issued overnight, officials from Lakeway and Bee Cave said.

Bee Cave Mayor Kara King informed residents around 5 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 2 that West Travis County PUA was experiencing a prolonged power outage at the Uplands Water Treatment Plant, and it was affecting distribution throughout the system.

Power has now been restored, and the agency is working on replenishing storage tank levels, according to the PUA.

"To ensure destruction of harmful bacteria and other microbes, water for drinking, cooking and ice-making should be boiled and cooled prior to use for drinking water or human consumption purposes. Water should be brought to a vigorous boil and then boiled for two minutes," West Travis County PUA officials said.

City officials are also encouraging residents, if possible, to use other sources of water, such as water bottles, for drinking and cooking.
