Humble City Council OKs nearly $489K in police department equipment

Humble City Council approved nearly $489,000 in equipment for the Humble Police Department—including radios, live cameras and vehicles—during the Oct. 24 council meeting.

Sorting out details

According to Oct. 24 meeting documents and city officials, the purchases include:

• About $184,300 for dash-mount mobile radios, portable digital radios, remote speaker microphones, extension cables, chargers and batteries
• $110,911 for two vehicles
• $103,750 for a live-action camera contract
• $89,997 for a system that would help air support track suspects being pursued by police

“I'm confident this can have real impact,” Humble Mayor Norman Funderburk said during the meeting.

The council unanimously approved the purchases for the police department on Oct. 24.

“I want to ... commend [the Humble police officers] for the job they do, because they keep a bunch of the criminal element pushed out of the actual city of Humble and into these other areas. ... It's the great job of the police officers working to push the crime out. The [new equipment systems] will just help with that a lot,” Police Chief Ken Theis said during the meeting.
