Houston Methodist West Hospital ground breaks $65 M project for third medical office building

Houston Methodist West Hospital broke ground on a $65 million, 150,000 square-foot medical office building on May 6, according to a news release.

The new six-story building is scheduled to open by the end of 2023 and is just one phase of the hospital’s master planned expansion in anticipation of Katy's rapid growth, according to the release.

Additional phases will bring a new patient tower to increase in size Houston Methodist West’s intensive care unit, newborn intensive care unit, imaging department and medical-surgery capabilities, according to Houston Methodist Chief Operating Officer Kyle Stanzel.

“Houston Methodist West is committed to growing with the needs of the community,” Stanzel said in an email. “This project is the beginning of the next phase of expansion for the campus. We’re already in the planning stages for our next period of growth, looking at how we can bring more advanced services and procedures to our patients by 2030 and beyond.”

The proposed structure will be the hospital’s third medical office building and will cater to physicians practicing orthopedics, sports medicine and physical therapy.

The release states the building will come with 900 parking spots, a sports field for injury recovery efforts, a nature space and walking trails. Project leaders also plan to build a road to the facility from the I-10 feeder to Park Row.

Construction on the building coincides with additional in-progress campus expansion efforts, including two new hybrid operating rooms for endovascular surgery that were completed in the spring; a dedicated digestive health space in its northwest tower set to finalize the last week of June; and a multi-specialty primary care group located in Fulshear at FM 1463 and Fulshear Bend Drive slated for late 2022.
