Amazing Place to open west campus in Katy for those facing dementia, Alzheimer's

Citing research showing west Houston has the fastest-growing 55 years and older population in the region, officials with nonprofit Amazing Place have decided to bring a second facility to service families facing challenges with dementia and Alzheimer's to Katy by spring 2025.

The organization provides free or low-cost brain health, memory preservation and aging education to the community. It has an evidence-based day program for those with mild to moderate dementia, offering family caregiver support through classes, counseling and connection, according to a November release.

The release credits the organization's Amazing Together campaign that garnered $20 million for the funds to build the Amazing Place West campus, located off I-10 and Fry Road.

Features of the new 18,000-square-foot facility include:

• A therapeutic art studio
• Kitchen
• Nursing assessment and rest areas
• Library
• Family conference room
• Activity rooms
• Non-denominational chapel
• Courtyard/healing garden with a putting green
• Community lawn with a covered pavilion

Executive Director Tracey Brown said in a statement that the expansion was made possible due to years of research, planning, fundraising and faith.

"New breakthroughs in research show that about 50% of dementia cases can be prevented with lifestyle changes, and our dementia experts are working with the community on the importance of brain health, memory preservation and the aging journey,” Brown said in the release.
