Financial considerations are on the agenda this week for most of the municipalities with authority over the Katy area. Katy will hold a public forum to discuss possible uses for federal grant funding from Fort Bend County. Fulshear and Fort Bend County will be considering their 2019 proposed budgets on Tuesday. Harris County is considering a contract for road marking and moving around the region should be easier now that officials have opened the Spring Green Boulevard Roundabout. Here are five things Katy residents should be aware of this week:
1. The city of Katy will hold a public meeting to discuss the use of Community Development Block Grant for Disaster Recovery funds.
The city will host a meeting to allow residents, businesses, service providers and nonprofits to provide input on the needs of those who have still not fully recovered from the effects of the 2016 Tax Day Floods. The meeting will be heldat 6 p.m. Monday, Sept. 10 at Katy City Hall, 901 Ave. C, Katy.
2. The Fulshear City Council will hold two public hearings during a special meeting at 7 p.m. Tuesday.
The council will meet at the Irene Stern Center, located at 6920 Katy Fulshear Road in Fulshear to discuss the upcoming year’s proposed budget and property tax rate. The $10.6 million budget proposal expects a raise in revenue from property taxes compared to the prior year’s budget of about 16.5 percent. The proposed effective property tax rate for the city is $0.150473 per $100 valuation. Residents who are unable to attend the hearings in-person may view live video of the meetings at this link.
3. The Harris County Commissioners Court will hold its regular meeting at 10 a.m. Tuesday.
Several contracts are on the agenda for the commissioners to consider, including a $500,000 contract with Stripes & Stops Company, Inc. for road marking services in Precinct 3, which includes the Katy area. The meeting will take place at 1001 Preston Ave., Ste. 938 in Houston.
